Like Norman Rockwell, I used to be quite ashamed of using visual aids such as photographs and projectors to speed the plough. At that these were not added to my arsenal of tricks until five years after my first one-man show way back in 1972.
Still, I do enjoy fresh air and sunshine, and there is precious little of it for good periods of the year in Atlantic Canada. The winters, which are long, are not good plein air painting months.
I have participated in plein air painting events at St. Andrews, N.B., Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, and this year, appeared at the grand daddy of such events in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. I think they are in their thirteenth year. To make matters as easy as possible Ruth and I and her mum took up residence on Victoria Street in the Bread And Roses B and B for a three night stay.
