Rod has been at the easel.

Its back to the future with people in their natural habitats. The first of a series which I aim to take with me to the paint-on-site at Annapolis Royal. This one features two "Loyalists" at Shelburne for the annual gathering of those Tories who fled Republican USA after The Revolutionary War (as we call it here in Canada). In the US that's "The War of Independence."

That fellow on the left would be one of the "Foreign Protestant" mercenaries brought in to supplement the British regulars. After the war they were given resettlement properties and support to establish a number of towns in Canada. At the time Shelburne had 10,000 new citizaens and was much larger than Halifax. The Loyalists will be encamped there in large number next weekend and Ruth & I are going there overnight to participate in the fun.
