Hippy Homesteaders?

It is a dull day here in Lunenburg, so here's a colourful person to brighten the day.

See the April edition of Canadian Geographic to read about a few of my friends and acquaintances featured in "Hippie Homesteaders of the Fundy Hills." I have some problems with the categorization "hippy"and there simply are no Fundy Hills per se (Caledonian massif, please)! But full credit to all these ex-pats for contributing so much to the society of New Brunswick.

It is too bad that author Ray Conlogue was not on the ground for the decades following his creation of that geodesic dome, which certainly became a part of local folklore. The story of the resettlement of the rural outback by come-from-aways included more than a few Canadians; and the interaction between nationalities was broader and less simplistically buccolic than this essay suggests.

That fellow pictured above is a thorough-going New Brunswicker who knows the full story, which is full of love, loss, pathos and success. God bless us, every one!
